  • Rasha Nahas

    Musician/ Singer-Songwriter/ Palestine/ Berlin

Palestinian singer, composer and instrumentalist Rasha Nahas has a distinctive approach to songwriting, storytelling and performance. As a genre-defying, narrative-focused artist, Rasha Nahas has been crafting a keenly singular music universe, cultivated in and loyal to the underground. Driven by candid lyrics with disarming vulnerability, Rasha has created a sound that moves seamlessly between the resonances of the old school rock ‘n’ roll singer-songwriter era, and the anarchic heyday of ‘80s electronica.

Rasha’s critically acclaimed debut album, ‘Desert’, chronicled her journey from Haifa to Berlin. It was featured by BBC Radio 4’s Loose Ends and the Spotify-produced podcast, Spotify:Mic Check and led to Rasha being among the first to receive the Bertha Foundation's Artivism Award in 2022. Her two-chapter LP, 'Amrat', released in January 2023 via UK leading independent label Cooking Vinyl, with tours scheduled across Europe and West Asia. Rasha's first foray into Arabic-language lyrics, ‘Amrat’, is a sentimental body of work, maneuvering seamlessly between the thematic duality of urban and rural landscapes.

  • CIRCE

    Creative Impact Research Centre Europe

This project aims to offer the knowledge and understanding needed to overcome the barriers that pioneering artists face in accessing funding, resources, and opportunities.

This research provides practical recommendations for supporting diversity and fostering inclusive collaborations. It’s built on the individual and collective experiences of artists and people in leadership positions who work with artists. Their perspectives offer insights and strategies for dismantling barriers and fostering meaningful change in the industry and society at large.

The approach is based on my previous practical work as a film producer. Through additional scientific studies I’ve conducted with the Digital media department of the Filmuniversity Babelsberg KONRAD WOLF I've gained a deep understanding of the barriers that marginalized artists often encounter when it comes to accessing funding, resources, and opportunities - and the need for new, sustainable business models.
